I have been to the Open Road bike shop in Fleming island several times and Tommy and his staff have been very helpful every time. I would recommend them for any bicycle needs.
Yes, the owner can have somewhat of a no-nonsense personality, but that's what I like about him. He doesn't fill my head up with a bunch of fluff and information I don't need to know. He tells me straight up what I need to have to be a safe, comfortable cyclist and doesn't try to hard sell me on things I don't need. I appreciate his honesty and will continue to bring my business to him, and will recommend others to do the same.
I need a tune up and some minor parts. I will be visiting another store to get these services, where the staff is trained not only in bicycle knowledge, but also customer service and just plain courtesy and respect for another human being.
If you just want your bike repaired and aren't concerned with how you are spoken to, visit this place and your bike needs will be taken care of. However if you don't like being disrespected, I recommend you take your bike and money elsewhere.
Went in mid-summer then again in late summer, every time has been a very hot summer day. Every visit, the door has been propped open with no a/c and blazing hot inside the store.
Staff is extremely rude, and has made me feel uncomfortable and inferior every time I have visited. I have had 2 tube repairs and went once for some brake pads. They all laughed and rolled their eyes when I mentioned replacing the brake pads. They were knowledgeable and actually came out and sanded my brake pads and explained how to adjust my brakes myself, however the way they went about it was completely unacceptable.
Staff is friendly and very helpful. Tommie fixed my bike in no time, and was happy to show and explain to me what went wrong. I've been to many bike shops and this was one of the best, if not the best, experience I've had at one.
My daughter was going to Gainesville for college and we wanted to make her bike as theft deterrent as possible. They were very helpful, ordered us the correct equipment and pointed us in the right direction. I would definitely go back!
I have met up with a great group of riders through the shop that I feel safe on the road with. I've also participated in spin classes at the shop that have been very beneficial.
I have purchased two bikes from this location - one for me, one for my son. The service I get on these bikes is awesome...they have always been more than fair on their pricing and have tried to do their best to see that I'm not spending money unnecessarily on items that I don't need or I'm not yet ready for.
The bike selection and their maintenance skills are great, however there needs to be a complete staff replacement and probably a new owner and management.
My most recent visit, I was standing in line behind a decent looking middle aged woman. Every staff member had stopped what they were doing and stared at the woman while she was paying for services at the counter. She even mentioned the "crowd" that had formed. I could sense she was extremely uncomfortable.
